Beat the Heat at the Town of Jay Community Center

With this week bringing some of the highest temperatures of the year, we want to remind all residents that the Town of Jay Community Center is available as an official cooling center. If your home lacks reliable air conditioning or if you just need a break from the oppressive humidity, please feel free to come by, sit down, and cool off. The certified cooling room is on the first floor in the Senior Center space.

The center is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and features strong air conditioning, comfortable seating, and ADA-compliant bathrooms. Please take a moment today to check in on your neighbors, especially older adults, families with young children, and pets. For a complete list of cooling options across the region, you can look up the 2025 Essex County Cooling Center List at this address: https://health.essexcountyny.gov/wp-content/uploads/Cooling-Centers-ESSEX-COUNTY-for-NYSDOH-2025.pdf. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and don’t hesitate to utilize this great community resource!

In addition to staying cool, please remember that early voting for the New York State Primary Election begins tomorrow, Saturday, June 13, and runs through Sunday, June 21. Taking advantage of early voting allows you to cast your ballot on a schedule that fits your life. All early voting for Essex County residents will take place at the Lake Placid Beach House, located at 49 Parkside Drive in Lake Placid.

The early voting polling hours are as follows:

  • June 13th through June 21st: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Except Monday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 17, which are 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM)

If you prefer to vote on the official Primary Election Day, you can cast your ballot right here at home. AuSable Valley Central School District Budget Revote

Residents of the AuSable Valley Central School District are reminded that a revote on the revised 2026, 2027 school budget will take place on Tuesday, June 16, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Middle/High School Cafeteria in Clintonville. Following the rejection of the initial proposal in May, the Board of Education has put forward a revised spending plan. This new version reduces the spending increase to align exactly with the state imposed 5.95% tax cap. If voters do not approve this revised budget, state law requires the district to immediately adopt a contingency budget featuring a 0% tax levy increase, which would trigger deeper cuts. Please exercise your right to vote.

Have a great weekend,

Matt
