Today, we hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery for the projects their funds helped complete in the Town of Jay. We celebrated the newly renovated bathrooms with showers and commercial kitchen at the Community Center. These upgrades were done to help care for individuals displaced during an emergency while the Community Center is used as a shelter. We also showcased the river restoration work that was completed in the hamlet of Upper Jay last fall. Several dignitaries were on hand to cut the ribbon on these projects.
This past week it was announced that the Ausable River Association will receive $2 million for stream restoration as part of the 2023 Omnibus Bill signed into law by President Biden. This request was helped through appropriations by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. After the February 2022 flooding in Au Sable Forks, I contacted Congresswoman Stefanik to inform her of the disaster. She called me that afternoon to discuss the river and its effects on the Town of Jay. When the opportunity was presented to me to support AsRA’s request for these funds, I once again reached out to her to discuss the impact river restoration could have on our communities. I am so excited to see the work completed. Hopefully it will help our residents live in harmony with the beautiful river.
On Thursday, we have our 2023 Organizational Board Meeting at 7:00pm. Prior to the meeting we will have a public hearing at 6:30 for Local Law Number 2 of 2022 to amend the Planning Board Law and 6:45pm for Local Law Number 3 of 2022 which allows for virtual meetings by the Town of Jay. You can log into these meetings from home, https://meet.goto.com/455178293. Deputy Supervisor Tom McDonald will be running the meeting in my absence during Thursday’s Board meeting because I was invited by Governor Hochul’s office to attend the opening ceremony of the FISU World University Games in Lake Placid.
Lastly, I would like to thank Kevin Zaumetzer for the amazing job he does lighting the hamlet of Au Sable Forks for the holidays every year. What you do makes Au Sable Forks the envy of every other hamlet in the area. Also a huge thank you to all of the volunteers, businesses, and organizations he pulls together to make this happen.
Have a great week,
Matt.
