Spruce Up Day with Au Sable Forks Elementary School
Last week, the 6th grade class from Au Sable Forks Elementary School partnered with the Town of Jay for their annual Spruce Up Day. Students joined our Parks Department at Grove Park to help clean the ballfields, dugouts, bleachers, and picnic area. As you can see from the attached photo, there was plenty of hard work—and fun—happening! A big thank you to these young volunteers for helping get everything ready for the start of the Jay/Black Brook Youth Commission games this week.
Comprehensive Plan Visioning Workshop Recap
We had an excellent turnout at our recent Comprehensive Plan Visioning Workshop held at the Amos and Julia Ward Theater. More than 30 participants—including residents, business owners, and representatives from local organizations—shared their ideas and priorities for the future of the Town of Jay. There was strong support for “managed growth,” improved quality of life, and expanded opportunities for residents. Key questions—many beginning with “Should the town…”—will guide upcoming community Open Houses and a public survey this summer. Thank you to everyone who dedicated four hours of their Saturday to help shape the future of our town—your input is deeply appreciated.
Adirondack Association of Towns Meeting and Training
I recently attended the Adirondack Association of Towns summer meeting and training in Lake Placid at the High Peaks Resort. It was a productive day of networking and learning. I had the opportunity to speak with Assemblyman Billy Jones and Allison Webbinaro from the Governor’s Office about current and potential projects in Jay and Essex County. Garry Douglas, President and CEO of the North Country Chamber of Commerce, provided an informative update on the impacts of tariffs on cross-border business and tourism. Beth Gilles from the Lake Champlain–Lake George Regional Planning Board also discussed housing programs that could support our ongoing initiatives. I’m optimistic that these conversations will lead to new partnerships and resources that support a Stronger Jay.
Enjoy the weekend,
Matt
