Busy Week in Review: $5 Million Grant Award and Planning Sessions
This past week has been an eventful one for the Town of Jay. On Tuesday, we received word that our WIIA grant application for water meter installations and system upgrades across our three districts was not selected. However, on Wednesday, we received tremendous news: the Town was awarded up to $5 million through the IIJA grant program. This major award was made possible in large part by the income survey work our water department conducted in partnership with RCAP Solutions. We continue to work with our regional partners to pursue additional funding to help support this nearly $8 million capital project.
The Town of Jay also hosted two important public informational sessions in the gymnasium this week. On Wednesday evening, G&G Municipal Consulting held an informational session regarding the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) and NY Forward programs. A recording of the session can be viewed via the Town Board meeting minutes page at townofjayny.gov. On Thursday, I accompanied their team on a tour of Au Sable Forks, stopping in to meet with business and property owners to discuss the funding opportunities and our application goals. On Thursday evening, the Comprehensive Plan Special Board hosted an open house for the draft Comprehensive Plan Update. If you were unable to attend, all materials and draft documents remain available at planjay.com.
Another Busy Week Ahead
Tuesday, October 27th, features several important community meetings and resources at the Community Center:
- Town of Jay STR Task Force: The task force will hold its second meeting at 12:00 pm. The public is welcome to attend this hybrid meeting in person or online.
- Medicare Open Enrollment Assistance: The Essex County Office for the Aging will host an open enrollment clinic from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, with representatives from Clinton County also on hand. This service is by appointment only; please contact your county office directly to reserve a time. Due to significant plan changes taking effect in 2027, Essex County has already scheduled a second clinic date on November 20th. Please refer to the attached flyer.
- 2027 Budget Workshop: The Town Board will hold its third budget workshop at 6:00 pm. As a reminder, this is a working session for the Board to finalize figures before the formal Public Hearing on Thursday, November 5th, where residents will have the opportunity to share public comments.
On Wednesday, October 28th, at 6:00 pm, the AuSable Valley Central School District will hold a meeting to review the Facilities Study Report and continue discussions regarding a potential consolidated campus in Clintonville. Because this proposal carries significant long-term implications for Au Sable Forks Elementary School, I strongly encourage our residents to attend and stay informed.
I hope you have a great weekend,
Matt
