Prevent Frozen Water Lines
We have already seen several frozen water line incidents in our Town water systems, and even colder temperatures are expected. If you have had freezing issues in the past or believe your service line may be at risk, keep a faucet running a thin, steady stream about the size of a pencil. A slow drip is not enough to prevent freezing, while a heavy flow wastes water and can strain septic systems.

You should also open cabinet and utility room doors so warm air can reach pipes and confirm that any heat tape is plugged in and working. For seasonal properties, shutting water off inside is often not enough. Please contact the Town to have water turned off at the curb when closing a building for an extended period.

If you suspect a frozen line or need the Water Department to shut water off for repairs, call anytime, day or night, at (518) 647-2204 x151. A small amount of preventative water use now can help avoid costly damage and service loss later. Stay safe and warm.

Au Sable Forks Historic District on the National Register
Congratulations to Au Sable Forks. Last Friday, the National Park Service officially listed the Au Sable Forks Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, a major recognition of our community’s historic character and pride. The State Historic Preservation Office will send a final notice of listing to all building owners within the district.

This designation allows homeowners and income-producing property owners to access state and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits to help invest in their buildings. Learn more at https://parks.ny.gov/preservation/programs/tax-credit As always, my office is happy to help answer questions and connect residents with resources.
