NY Association of Towns Training

Earlier this week, I attended the New York Association of Towns (NYAOT) annual meeting and training in NYC. It was a productive trip filled with sessions directly applicable to our goals in the Town of Jay. Key highlights included:

  • Broadband & Tech: During the Advancing Communications Infrastructure session, I discussed our Public Wi-Fi Project with the panel. I walked away with fresh strategies and new professional contacts to help us refine the system as we move forward.
  • Water Protection: We have already begun work on the Drinking Water Source Protection Program (DWSP2), but this training revealed additional no-cost resources available to the Town that will be invaluable for our water systems.
  • Strategic Growth: I also attended sessions on winning investment strategies, the economic impact of parks, AI integration, securing grants, and navigating the challenges of emerging technology.

I am eager to begin implementing these insights to better advocate for our community and streamline our municipal operations.

ADK Remote Worker Meetup

Calling all remote workers in Jay and Keene! Working from home does not have to mean working alone. As part of ADK Remote Worker Month, we are hosting a casual meetup for local telecommuters, freelancers, and tech professionals. Come swap stories, meet your neighbors, and learn about new local resources.

Join us for community connection and local refreshments!

Mural Project Update: Walls Between Waters

The Walls Between Waters Mural Project is officially moving forward. While the main festival is centered in Ticonderoga, the Town of Jay has been selected as one of six featured mural sites.

Thanks to grant funding acquired by the Essex County Land Bank, a new mural will be installed at the AuSable Theater. Currently, three artists have been selected to submit potential designs. We are also in the pre-planning stages for an unveiling event on June 5, and other specifics are being worked out. We are incredibly excited about how this project will beautify Main Street and serve as a new draw for visitors.

Hope you all have a great holiday weekend!

Matt
