2025 Election Update
The 2025 Election has come and gone, and I would like to thank everyone who came out to vote in the Town of Jay. There were over 800 in-person votes, nearly 100 early votes, and more than 50 absentee ballots cast.
I also want to take a moment to thank all the individuals who put themselves forward to run for public office and contribute to making our community better. Congratulations to Councilman Forbes and Councilman Sauer on their successful re-election bids.
There are still outstanding votes to be counted, but I currently hold a slight lead of 487–465 over Mr. Deyoe in the Town of Jay Supervisor race. Final ballots should be counted by the end of next week, with certification of the vote due to New York State by November 29. I want to commend all the candidates for running a clean and professional race that truly reflected the spirit of our community.
New Community Food Bank Opening in Au Sable Forks
A new Community Food Bank will open on November 11 at St. James Episcopal Church in Au Sable Forks. The idea originated several months ago in the newly formed Town of Jay Human Services Committee, chaired by Robin Licari. Ten volunteers are already on board, and the new Food Bank will replace the Town of Jay Food Pantry previously located at the Community Center.
As a registered Food Bank, the new location will be able to better serve residents with expanded resources and access to essentials not previously available. The need for local food assistance continues to grow as SNAP benefits are reduced and other regional pantries face shortages of basic items like eggs and cheese.
If you would like to make a donation, you can stop by St. James Episcopal Center (behind the church) on Tuesdays for more information. Cash donations can also be made online through Cornell Cooperative Extension of Essex County at essex.cce.cornell.edu/donate/donate-to-food-pantries
Christmas in the Forks Fundraiser
This year’s Christmas in the Forks Fundraiser will be held tomorrow, Saturday, November 8 at 20 Main beginning at 4:00 pm. The event will feature a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, music, and “Reindeer Games.”
Stop by to support this wonderful community event and help spread some holiday cheer. See the flyer below for more information. I hope to see you there!
Hope you have a great weekend,
Matt
