SNAP and HEAP Benefits
Essex County Government is informing residents who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that there may be delays in benefit distribution beginning November 1. To help ensure residents maintain continuity of support during this time, Essex County is actively compiling and distributing information on alternative resources. A comprehensive guide, along with updates and additional resources, will be available on the official Essex County website at essexcountyny.gov.

Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, the opening date for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) has been postponed until November 17. The Essex County HEAP Department will continue to accept early outreach applications; however, new HEAP applications cannot be processed until the program officially opens. Early outreach benefits will not be processed until that time.

If you have a heating emergency, you can apply for emergency assistance through the Temporary Assistance Program. For more information, please contact the Essex County Department of Social Services at 518-873-3441.
