Town Board Meeting
Last night, the Town of Jay Town Board held its regular monthly meeting. Several topics were discussed, and as always, you can view the meeting on our website under “Meeting Minutes.”  During the meeting, we introduced Local Law #1 of 2025: A Local Law Redefining Income for Persons 65 Years or Older to Qualify for Partial Real Property Tax Exemption. This “Sliding Scale” local law will allow residents aged 65 and older to receive an exemption on income up to $37,399.99. This change raises the previous threshold from $25,000–$29,000 to receive a 50% exemption. A public hearing for this local law will be held at 6:45 pm on November 13.

AVCS Community Engagement
This week, I met with AuSable Valley Central School Superintendent Mike Francia and School Business Executive Ted Sill to discuss the fiscal challenges that AVCS is currently facing. They are looking for ways to better communicate with residents of the district who do not have a direct connection to the school.  We discussed several opportunities for the school to engage with the broader community. If you are part of an organization that would like to host a meet and greet with Mike and Ted, please reach out. You can also attend their next School Board meeting on Wednesday, October 15 at 6:00 pm in the Middle High School Auditorium.

Entrepreneurship Night
The Shipley Center for Innovation at Clarkson University, in collaboration with the Town of Jay, will host an Entrepreneurship Night at the Community Center on Tuesday, October 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The AuSable River Valley Business Association will also be in attendance for those interested in learning more about the local business community.  This evening event will provide an opportunity for local entrepreneurs, small business owners, and innovators to network and learn about various resources available to support their work. To register, visit tinyurl.com/JayEntrepNight. To learn more about other opportunities and support services offered by the Shipley Center, visit clarkson.edu/shipley or email shipleycenter@clarkson.edu.

Harvest Dinner
The Au Sable Forks Knights of Columbus invite you to their annual Harvest Dinner on Sunday, October 19, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Holy Name Parish Center. The menu includes baked ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetables, candied yams, cornbread, and pumpkin pie. Meals are $15 for adults and $10 for children 11 and under, with both eat-in and take-out options available. This is a great opportunity to take a night off from cooking and still be able to enjoy a delicious homemade meal.

Hope you have a great weekend,
Matt
