Sustainability and Energy Fair
The 2nd Annual Sustainability and Energy Fair was a success, even with the last-minute move to the Community Center due to inclement weather. Twenty-five vendors and exhibitors participated, and we continue to see this event grow each year. Our goal is to build on this momentum to secure additional grants that help save taxpayer dollars. Thank you to Councilman Sauer for sharing the photo below from the event.
Meeting with Adirondack Council
This week I had a great meeting with Adirondack Council Director of Conservation Jackie Bowen and Clean Water Community Advocate Sunita Halasz at The Forks Blend and Brew. We discussed the many projects and partnerships underway to improve infrastructure in the Town of Jay and explored potential funding opportunities to reduce the tax burden on residents. Their support adds two more strong partners who will help us identify and pursue these opportunities. I deeply appreciate their commitment to helping us become stronger and more resilient.
Project Update
The Solar Array Project at the Highway Garage is nearly complete. Once operational, the array will provide electricity for the Highway Garage and the Community Center, resulting in a significant reduction in energy costs. Much of this project was made possible through NYSERDA energy efficiency grants.
The Salt Shed Project is also approaching completion. With a total cost of about $800,000, funded primarily through a $600,000 DEC WQIP grant and in-kind services by our Highway staff, this project is expected to reduce sand use by roughly one-third, from 6,000 yards to 4,000 yards annually. This reduction will save on both labor and transportation costs, allowing the project to pay for itself over time.
United Way Fundraiser
Tomorrow I will be participating in the annual Rappel for a Reason at Lake View Towers in Plattsburgh. The United Way of the Adirondack Region has been an incredible resource for the Town of Jay, stepping up in times of crisis and providing support to families in need. I’ve seen firsthand how responsive and reliable they are, and I want to thank John Bernardi and the entire team for their dedication.
Wishing you a great weekend,
Matt
