RERC Community Workshop
The Town of Jay has been selected to participate in the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) Program and this evening is the beginning of the 2 day public workshop. This initiative offers a fantastic opportunity to plan outdoor recreation projects that bring people together on our trails, in our parks, and at the local businesses central to Au Sable Forks, Jay, and Upper Jay. Whether you live, work, or play in our river communities, you are invited to attend and share your ideas. No prior experience is needed, and free food and beverages will be provided for all attendees.

  •  Community Welcome Event: Friday, September 25th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Au Sable Forks Community Center
  •  Community Workshop: Saturday, September 26th, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Au Sable Forks Community Center

NYAOT Legislative Conference in Albany
This past week, I attended the two-day New York Association of Towns (NYAOT) Legislative Conference in Albany to represent the Town of Jay and advocate for our community’s top priorities at the state level. During the conference, I had the opportunity to speak directly with the Governor’s Budget Director to emphasize the financial challenges and funding needs facing our school district. I was also able to engage with economic development organizations from across New York to share details and discuss our potential revitalization project on Church Lane.

Beyond policy discussions, participating in the shaping of the NYAOT legislative agenda and connecting with fellow town supervisors was invaluable. Hearing from leaders across the state reinforced that many rural towns are facing the exact same infrastructure, housing, and budgetary challenges as Jay. Bringing our shared voice directly to state lawmakers ensures that our local needs remain at the forefront of policy discussions in Albany.

STR Task Force Holds First Meeting This Tuesday
The Town of Jay’s Short Term Rental (STR) Task Force will gather for its very first meeting this coming Tuesday. This initial session will focus on taking stock of our town’s current STR landscape, reviewing ongoing discussions and initiatives at the Essex County level, and identifying practical solutions to address some of our most straightforward, easy-to-solve issues.

As short-term rentals continue to impact our local housing market, economy, and neighborhood character, this task force will work toward balanced, common-sense solutions for Jay. We look forward to getting this collaborative effort underway, and we will keep the community updated as our discussions progress.
