Frontier Outage
Today marks one full week that many residents in the Town of Jay have been without Frontier internet and phone service due to what is clearly a widespread outage that Frontier must acknowledge and address. Nearly 30 residents have contacted me directly about this issue. Several customers have been told their router was the problem and that a replacement would be mailed. In at least one case, a resident reported that the new router arrived only to be told it was also faulty.

I have reached out to Essex County Emergency Services, the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, Governor Kathy Hochul’s local office, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office regarding this outage. Because most phone and internet services are now fiber-based, they are not currently regulated by the Public Service Commission. If you are without service, please contact my office at supervisor@townofjayny.gov so I can document the extent of this outage.

This is more than an inconvenience. Much like the ongoing lack of reliable cell service in parts of our town, this situation constitutes a public safety concern and an emergency for many residents.

Holiday Schedule
The Community Center will be open Monday through Wednesday this week during normal business hours. It will be closed on Thursday, January 1, in observance of New Year’s Day, and will reopen on Friday, January 2, during normal business hours.

I hope everyone has been able to spend or will soon spend time with family during this holiday season. I am especially enjoying having my two daughters home from college. For those with loved ones home or on school break, cherish that time together. It truly goes by quickly.

I hope you continue to enjoy the holiday season,
Matt
